hello

my name is paul.

Agencies

Freelance, Portland, 2017-Present: I live in Portland, but routinely work for clients up and down the west coast. I do not charge for traveling or boarding for larger projects.

And no projects are too small, I can write a 30-second radio script in just a few hours, one that is, I promise, way better than anything you will hear on the local stations. And I can produce it for you, no problem.

Need just a few headlines? Give me three hours and I'll give you a bunch of keepers, I'm a headline machine.

Need some editing, or cleaning up? That's easy. I'm good, fast and cheap!

Columbia Sportswear: 2014-2016: I wrote emails, banners, social, website content, product descriptions and product videos for Columbia Sportswear, Mountain Hardwear, SOREL and Montrail.

Columbia Sportswear is an e-commerce machine, tracking absolutely everything. I knew exactly how much money my emails made and how many people deleted it without even opening it. All of that stuff. As a creative group, we watched and reacted to product inventories on a global level and we tracked and reacted to weather systems on a national level, we loved the heat, the rain and the snow!

We all worked closely with art directors, buyers, product designers and engineers to create compelling, product stories across all brands, week in and week out, per a year-long schedule created annually within our department.

I also attended many seminars and watched countless focus groups, all geared around UX and SEO. I am an expert at crafting SEO copy and thoroughly understand how most people click around the internet while shopping.

Freelance, Portland, 2013: Highlights include an award-winning print campaign for Park City Mountain Resorts, and a radio campaign for Salt Lake City Tourism.

Razorfish, Portland, 2006-2012: Here I worked with some of the best planners, strategists, coders, developers and UX professionals on the west coast.

I wrote banners, websites, social and new content for Nike, Adidas, Levi's, Bing, MSN, Windows 7 and 8, Explorer 8, Xbox, Zune [what?] AT&T, Miller/Coors, Best Buy, Geek Squad, Expedia, PG&E, Travel New Zealand, Holland America and Match.com.

Freelance, San Francisco, 2004-2006: As a team, my partner and I did award-winning TV, print, outdoor and radio for agencies across three, western states. Our clients were Jelly Belly jellybeans, Freightliner, and the State of Nevada.

Y&R, Detroit, 2001-2004: Here I wrote national TV, print, outdoor and online advertising for the Ford Motor Company, including a Super Bowl spot.

San Francisco, 1999-2001: I moved to San Francisco during the .com boom and freelanced at all sorts of shops, including long stints at Lowe, Grey, and what was to become Razorfish. I wrote for Sun Microsystems, Doctors Without Borders, Eddie Bauer, Columbia Sportswear, adidas and countless .coms.

Wieden + Kennedy, 1995-1998: My second job in advertising, the best people in the world, it's here where I learned how to write copy.

Hello,    I am copywriter with a ton of sportswear, automobile, travel and consumer electronics experience, and one who likes Gordon Lightfoot.   I have written hundreds and hundreds of emails, headlines, product descriptions and social for pretty much every type of shoe or boot on earth. This experience also includes gear and apparel for top-tier athletes and climbers—products that wick, warm, cool, stretch, breathe, drain and/or repel the rain.   At Razorfish, an interactive shop, I wrote banners, websites, new content and social for Miller/Coors, Microsoft, Best Buy, Levi's, Travel New Zealand and Holland America Line.    I also have traditional, big ad agency experience, with national TV, print and outdoor for Eddie Bauer, Cadbury Schweppes and the Ford Motor Company, for whom I wrote and produced a Super Bowl spot.   I can proofread, edit, have tons of SEO experience, have lived in demandware for weeks at a time, and have many hours of UX/UI education and focus group watching under my belt. My first few years in the industry had me working as a project manager, and I still have those skills. I can schedule, budget, deal with venders and produce pretty much anything you need.   Have a great day. And thank you!    paul
